Summer’s Still Here

It’s September the first!

And how many times did you mess up the date today? I must have hit a dozen “Date Entry” errors – every one stinging a bit less. Because despite the common misconception, September isn’t really the end of summer.

It’s the best month of the year!

Seriously – the comfortable weather, the bountiful vegetables, and the reduced tourist traffic puts me in a great mood. This evening I took a little walk to find signs of summer: it’s still here! Flowers are still in bloom, leaves are clinging to trees, and it’s still comfortable enough to wear shorts and sandals. You could enjoy time at the beach (if the water calms down after last night’s storm), a picnic in the park, or any sport that requires a field and good weather.

It’s a fantastic time of year!

This week we’ll be gathering more veggies from the garden and getting our pickle on. I’m thinking pickled peppers and easy fridge dill pickles. I just need to find somewhere to buy the fresh dill. Perhaps a trip down the boardwalk or a stroll on the beach are in order for the weekend – it’s an extra long one. All in all, September is really one of the best times of year.

Except, perhaps, if you’re a student dreading the return to class. This was never the case for me though – as a kid I craved the return to class after weeks away from friends and learning. I was a dorky kid; I didn’t grow out of it!

Happy September!

All leaves present and accounted for
I’m still rocking the sandals
