Tonight we had our first burger barbecue of the season. We take turns making burgers, substituting ranch dressing for eggs and adding our own “secret” spice mix (aka – whatever random thing we throw in that night). Scott took the first crack at this tonight and his creation was delicious. However, I’m holding out for some fresh thyme to really bring our burgers to life.
Tonight we went a little nuts on the toppings – ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce, cheese, steamed mushroom and onion, lettuce, tomato, dill pickles, and hot peppers. It was a bit overwhelming, but tasty nevertheless. We also tried out Sobeys everything buns – these were surprisingly light and had onion, sesame, and poppy seeds. I really enjoyed these and will buy them again.
This has me thinking about my favourite burger toppings – I love dill pickles, onions, mushrooms, and cheeses of all kinds. I’m also a huge fan of sauces: barbecue, mustard, and dill sauce.
After a fantastic PEI Burger Love Month back in April, I think I’ll be trying out a few new combinations this summer – what are your recommendations?
