Yesterday I took a little burger road trip. The destination? Eden’s Gate – a tiny family restaurant in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island.
This was my first time taking a trip just to try a burger, but with a couple stops along the way, it was an unusually enjoyable experience that has me craving more trips around this little province. Bring on the summer!
When my friend described their previous Burger Love entry, the Gatekeeper, as “a unicorn’s tears of joy”, I knew I had to check this place out. The Sinner Burger definitely sounds delicious:
“8oz. Island Beef patty stuffed with Bacon and Mozzarella, Jack Daniel’s™ BBQ Onion Jam, Cheddar, Sliced Home Fries, Two Strips of Thick Cut Applewood Smoked Bacon, Homemade Crunchy Fried Onions, Homemade Dill Pickles, and Chipotle Mayo on a Homemade Three Onion & Bacon Bun, garnished with a Fresh Apple Slice”
I enjoyed this burger overall, but I can’t say that it was my favourite. The homemade dill pickles were still cucumbers and the sliced homefries were soggy. But the combination of onion jam and chipolte mayo was very tasty, along with the gooey cheddar cheese. I had very high expectations for the bacon and mozzarella stuffed patty, which were unfortunately dashed as the patty looked and tasted very normal. Good – but normal.
Expectations aside, this burger was nice to try but it lacked a distinct personality. I would absolutely return to the restaurant, but perhaps with lower expectations.
