It’s April – and on Prince Edward Island that means one thing – the return of PEI Burger Love.
After the yearly website crash, Islanders were introduced to 60 new burgers to taste at restaurants across the province. It’s the talk of the town these days – as Islanders and tourists alike rush to their favorite spots to try 100% PEI beef creations that will be gone with the snow.
Today, Scott and I decided to try out a new restaurant – Piatto Pizzeria – for their Italian creation “La Dolce Vita“. The Pizzeria is a new addition to town, and although their regular menu doesn’t feature a burger, we had to try it:
“7oz. Island Beef Infused with Soppressata Salami and House Seasoning, Bacon Onion Jam, Maple Goat Cheese, Jalapeno Roasted Garlic Aioli, Smoked Caciocavallo Cheese, Baby Arugula, and Hot Banana Peppers on a Ciabatta Bun seasoned with olive oil, garlic, oregano, salt and Grana Padano, and garnished with a Soppressata Salami Wrapped Pepperoncini Pepper”
Oh. my. goodness.
I was very happy with this burger – although it was almost as messy to eat as the 2013 champion ‘the Smokin’ Fox’. The patty was moist and flavourful – spiced with a seasoning blend that reminded me of Italian meatballs. I loved the blending of the sauces – the sweetness of bacon onion jam mixed with the heat of the jalapeno garlic aioli was a sauce-lovers dream come true. I’m a goat cheese fanatic and hot pepper enthusiast, so this burger really played well to my tastes.
Scott and I both enjoyed this Italian burger – and are impressed that a pizza place can hold their ground in this Island-wide competition. I highly recommend checking out Piatto Pizzeria. We’re planning to return to try out their thin crust pizzas – I’ve heard nothing but good reviews.
