As the storm rages outside, I feel uplifted by reminiscing about bright and beautiful things.
As a biologist, gardener, and nature lover, flowers were an absolute must-have for my wedding. I wanted beautiful blooms that would pop in photos, so I was thrilled when Barb Jewell of Island Meadow Farms agreed to take on the challenge of our late October wedding.
Island Meadow Farms, located just 5 minutes from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is a local mixed farming operation which produces fresh-cut flowers. As a special treat, we were invited to visit the floral studio to talk flowers with its owner, Barb, and pick out some of our favourite blooms two weeks before the big day. Barb was fantastic to work with, tossing around ideas until we had the perfect mixture of flowers lined up.
I was amazed at the outcome – the bouquets were breathtaking and vibrant; the boutonnieres were bright and unique; and the cake decor was spectacular. Our wildflower bouquets featured dahlias, roses, hydrangea, straw flower, succulents, cabbage, and thistle. Each piece has it’s own special meaning in my heart.

- I know that flowers only last one day, but these flowers will last forever in my heart. They were a nature-lovers dream come true and easily one of my favourite things about my wedding day.
