Planning my Future

Lately there’s been one thing on my mind: my future.

It’s the one topic that I can’t get enough of because, frankly, I have no idea what I want to do with my life. And I’m (not so) secretly hoping to be inspired by everyone around me.

I’m a pretty recent graduate with a degree in biology – which is a topic that interests me very much. But at the same time, I don’t necessarily see myself pursuing academics for the rest of my days. I have so many other interests, like writing, fashion, art… things that don’t really meld cohesively with an academic lifestyle. And, I’m not even sure there are research opportunities available in my field to begin with.

There’s not one specific job that I see myself doing for the rest of my life. Therefore, trying to plan my future is not productive.

But here’s the solution that I’ve come to. I can’t plan my life right now. Opportunities will present themselves, and I can choose to either run with them or hesitate because they’re not “what I have pictured”. I can live in the present, or I can spend my days trying to predict the future. Given these choices, I chose to live in the present and keep myself open to opportunity.

At the same time, I need to have a creative outlet for all my thoughts – and what better way to do that than to start an inspiration board?

So… I think I’ll get to work on one!

  1. That’s a great state of mind. I’m in roughly the same position as far as being a recent college grad who’s looking for suitable work, though I’ve got a family to look after as well. You know what they say about a window opening when a door is closed; the trick is to know which way the breeze is blowing so you can find the window.

There’s a website called Pinterest which you could use if you wanted to have an online board.
